Doing something nice for another is great, but when one act of generosity benefits multiple families, the impact is exponential. That is the opportunity that Vince and Linda Stracener of Drumbeat 1 have enjoyed over the last three years. As owners and crew of Drumbeat 1, they have given 4 Virgin Islands sailing yacht charter donations to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in Arizona.
These will be auctioned at the charity’s annual ball presented by Go Daddy. Their donations alone have funded 11 wishes granted to children with life-threatening conditions. At the 2014 Make-a-Wish Ball and Silent Auction, Bob and Renee Parsons pledged to match every dollar with two dollars. The sailing yacht charter donation for Drumbeat 1 was won for $25,000. Coupled with the pledge from the Parsons, their contribution raised $75,000!
Their involvement with the charity has evolved into more than just a generous donation. “Everyone that we have had on the boat so far has all been involved in the charity in some way or another. They were all extremely appreciative of our donation because they see first hand how it helps. One of the groups from Colorado was going to come back this year but they got outbid by the group coming this June. We spent some time with them this summer while in Colorado. They have become fast friends,” said Vince and Linda.
It’s no surprise they make friends with their guests, as they receive rave reviews from them. From one recent guest, “The service could not have been better. The meals were superb, and soon became one of the highlights of the trip. From that small kitchen, Linda created some of the most outstanding meals we have ever eaten. They had memorized the preference lists we had completed, and essentially every item requested was accommodated. The activities were varied, and well attended.”
