Meet Your Crew

KNOT 5280 crew

After a 31-year career as a commercial real estate broker in Denver, Colorado, Joe decided to pursue a lifelong dream: owning a sailing catamaran and running charter vacations in the British Virgin Islands. In 2020, Joe and Holly purchased Knot 5280, and since then they have sailed more than 15,000 nautical miles and hosted over 90 charters.

Joe and Holly first met in 2003 when Holly joined the same commercial real estate company where Joe worked. What began as a friendship eventually grew into a relationship, and they married in 2014. While sailing the Caribbean may have started as “Joe’s dream,” it quickly became a shared adventure that Holly has embraced.

Guests quickly notice the natural rhythm Joe and Holly share, along with plenty of laughter along the way. They understand each other’s strengths and work seamless as a team to create an unforgettable charter experience. Knot 5280 is a comfortable, family-friendly boat designed to make guests feel at home from the moment they step aboard.

Holly is the caretaker and organizer of the operation, ensuring that every guest is well-fed, comfortable, and enjoying their vacation. Joe’s passion for sailing and the ocean is contagious; at the helm, he focuses on safety, adventure, and creating the perfect itinerary. Together, they provide a personalized charter experience that combines hospitality, local knowledge, and a genuine love for life on the water.

Captain Joe
Joe learned to sail racing monohulls on Colorado’s mountain reservoirs. Although he remains a competitive sailor, he is an easygoing captain who enjoys sharing his knowledge with guests interested in learning the fundamentals of sailing while aboard Knot 5280.

In 1993, seeking sunshine and a break from Colorado, Joe booked his first sailing vacation through Sunsail/Moorings in the British Virgin Islands. He immediately fell in love with the islands, their people, and the waters. Over the next 27 years, he returned whenever possible, developing an intimate knowledge of the Virgin Islands that few charter captains can match.

Colorado will always hold a special place in Joe’s heart. He loves spending time outdoors and enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, live music and virtually any outdoor adventure. When he’s not sailing, you will likely find him on two wheels – mountain biking, road biking, dirt biking, or cruising on his Harley. Joe is always looking for new ways to explore and enjoy the outdoors.

Chef Holly
Holly was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, and raised in Pahrump, a small town near the California-Nevada border. Her passion for food began early. Her grandmother was a professional chef, and her mother loved baking, so Holly spent much of her childhood in the kitchen learning treasured family recipes infused with Southwestern flavors.

Her family home was always the gathering place for friends and relatives, and Sunday dinners often became lively celebrations centered around great food and good company. Those experiences shaped Holly’s love of hospitality and entertaining.

As both chef and crew member aboard Knot 5280, Holly plays an essential role in creating memorable charter experiences. To prepare for life aboard, she expanded her culinary skills through private instruction and online training, elevating her cooking to a level that delights charter guests. She understands how valuable vacation time is and takes great pride in creating exceptional meals and a relaxing, worry-free experience for every family that sails with them.

After an 18-year career as a marketing manager in commercial real estate, Holly made the leap from corporate life to Caribbean living, joining Joe in turning their shared dream into reality.

December 2025 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Beautifully maintained yacht, comfortable, certainly enough shade and plenty of variety for seating/lounging, ample storage in cabins.

Quietude of sailing, peacefulness, snorkeling (Indians in particular), meditations, cocktail hour with amazing charcuterie, fantastic meals with outstanding presentation, very accommodating to specific dietary needs/wants, stargazing, flexibility in finding peaceful anchorages, making real connections with the crew (Holly and Joe)!

Excellent communication about our dietary wants and needs, super accommodating, had more than enough of our preferred wine/spirits, such excellent presentation (table cloths, napkins, etc) for each meal, with a broad variety of super tasty meals/snacks, with the crew being very attentive and proactive.

Tried paddle boarding for the first time, very nice experience...lots of swimming and snorkeling, sat in the swim flotilla several times...great to have the options to partake in the water toys.

Holly and Joe were an excellent team, such friendly and enjoyable banter with all of us, and we felt totally safe with their ability to handle everything on the yacht. It was a true pleasure to sail with them!

June 2025

Wow, what an amazing week! Y’all are wonderful hosts making our experience aboard Knot 5280 one that will go down in the books as a unforgettable vacation. From the food (delicious!) to the activities, the accommodations, and great conversations, and did we mention the sights… the week flew by and we wish we could do it all over again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us.

Thank you for sharing your home with us this week! We all had such a wonderful time – one that exceeded our expectations. From the food (amazing), tour guide duties, snorkeling to dinghy rides – you made it all memorable. We really felt at home when you started in on the jokes. Thanks for the fun birthday party at sea! Celebrating our birthdays, friendships and food fortune was made even more thoughtful by your sweet touches.
Thank you.

May 2025

Thank you guys for the best rip I could have asked for! It was a pleasure to hear your stories, learn about the islands and have you all as the crew for our trip. Our parents have been talking about this trip as long as I can remember and you made it the best it could have been.
- I can’t wait to come back.

April 2025

Everything far exceeded our expectations – really we didn’t know what to expect, but we are sure glad we gave chartering a try because I think the family is hooked! Not only did you make the trip special for Corey’s birthday, but you also really made the girls feel special too. We cannot thank you enough for a truly wonderful, relaxing week in the beautiful BVI!

Thank you both for an amazing week at seas! You both went above and beyond making our first trip to the BVI very memorable. This was a 13th birthday trip Jeffrey will never forget! Joe, thank you for enriching Jeffrey’s love of sailing. Holly, the food and everything was exceptional. We enjoyed all of our wonderful conversations. We hope to come visit again. This was the most relaxing family time we have had in a long time. Thank you.

March 2025

When we started planning this trip nine months ago, we never could have imaged that the trip would have turned out as amazing as it did. You welcomed us into your home and made us feel like family. We’ve been reminded lately how precious life is and we felt like you helped us savor every moment together as a family – being present in this beautiful place on earth. We got to check off so many items on our bucket list and we promise we didn’t take any turtles home! 😊 We will greatly miss the amazing food Holly! It was spectacular and our nightly map sessions were the perfect ending to the night.
Thank you doesn’t seem enough. You two are gems.

Thank you so much for an amazing trip… AGAIN! Your willingness to put up with this crazy group twice… well you are both honorary members of the Miller Lite Club. We had an amazing time snorkeling, hiking, and drinking our way through the BVI. Your hospitality is unmatched and Holly the food was incredible. .
Thanks again.
