Ruby One, a Leopard 58 crewed charter, accommodates up to six guests in three queen-berth suites. Each cabin features private en suite bathrooms, full-length mirrors, TVs, and refreshed décor with bamboo sheets and new towels. Ken Otte embarked on his career in Calgary, Alberta, where he joined the hotel and customer service team at the family’s steakhouse, Blackbeard’s. The establishment, styled after a pirate ship, imbued Ken’s work experience with the energy reminiscent of sailing on a yacht.
He embarked on his scuba diving journey in Mexico, later transforming it into a career. Ken then transitioned to teaching scuba diving at the Bahamian Resort Club Med. After relocating to the British Virgin Islands, he served as a diving and sail charter captain for five years.
Returning to Canada Ken pursued real estate while never abandoning his love for diving and sailing. However, he eventually purchased a sailboat on Lake Huron and established a sailing school, yearning for the lifestyle he enjoyed in the British Virgin Islands. Eventually, Ken returned to the BVI to pursue his passion.
Furthermore, Ken’s fervor for diving and sailing has endeared him to numerous guests.
Julie plays the role of chef and 1st mate aboard the BVI crewed catamaran Ruby One. Originally from Ontario, Canada, she previously served as a Developmental Service Worker. Moreover, this background equips Julie with the skills necessary to deliver exceptional service to all guests on board.
Her introduction to sailing came through Captain Ken, who initiated her into this world during a three-summer stay on his sailboat. Julie pursued formal education at Ashworth College, graduating with honors and earning her chef’s credentials.

Cruising from spot to spot was one of my favs, I enjoyed the sun, the clouds, the rain, the food, music and even the quiet. The hospitality was plentiful and genuine, Jules & Ken made sure of that. Captain got us everywhere we needed to go, Julie cooked her heart out and it was delicious.
