Many of the Caribbean islands celebrate Carnival which is nearly a week-long celebration during the summer months of the year. In many cases, the islands are celebrating at the same time which makes it tough to do an island Carnival tour. For example, Antigua and the British Virgin Islands celebrate Carnival the last week of July and the first week of August. So either you go to Antigua or The British Virgin Islands, not both.
It is a fun time with fashion shows, a Carnival Village with nightly performances, music festivals, lots of local food, and needless to say adult beverages.
The beat of the music will take you with it. Every year there are new songs that reflect the creativity of the local performers. The ambiguity of the lyrics is quite telling.
If you are chartering in the summer in the British Virgin Islands I would recommend visiting the BVI carnival for an evening. The BVI carnival is also one of the tamer Carnivals in the Caribbean.
