We design a BVI New Year’s yacht charter itinerary around private cruising, warm weather, and island parties. Instead of one resort, we let you visit anchorages, snorkeling spots, restaurants, and NYE events aboard your yacht.
From our experience, New Year’s is one of the busiest charter periods in the BVI. So, availability narrows quickly, rates rise compared with standard winter weeks, and popular anchorages require careful planning. Moreover, this guide covers a seven‑night route, yacht choices, costs, logistics, and key booking decisions.
Secure your yacht early for the busiest week in the BVI and celebrate New Year’s Eve on the water with family and friends.
Check New Year’s Yacht AvailabilityThe BVI offers short island hops, countless anchorages, and plenty of activities. Winter trade winds deliver steady sailing and warm weather, while guests enjoy either island parties or private onboard celebrations. In fact, these routes adapt easily for families, couples, or groups, making each charter personal. Late December often brings stronger trade winds or northerly swells, so crews balance festive energy with safe, comfortable cruising.
The sample route is seven nights, usually December 28–January 4, though exact dates depend on the yacht’s calendar.
Boarding, cave snorkeling, and sunset dinner.
Water sports, or the marina steakhouse ashore.
Wreck of the Rhone en route, weather dependent.
Marina night, taxi over to The Baths.
Leverick Bay, Prickly Pear, or Bitter End.
Optional run out to Anegada, seas permitting.
New Year’s Eve celebration.
Breakfast and disembarkation at Nanny Cay.
Boarding takes place at Nanny Cay around midday. After meeting the crew, guests get a safety briefing and route overview, while the chef confirms dietary preferences.
A short early-afternoon sail brings the yacht to Norman Island to explore the caves. This anchorage protects well against north swells, which are common at this time of year.
Then, close the day with sunset drinks on deck and a relaxed dinner from the chef.
Keep Day 1 light. Because delays and provisioning eat into the afternoon, and the boat starts near noon, this is only a short first sail.
Boats will run this loop either clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on the weather. This version starts at Norman Island; the reverse version (starting at Jost Van Dyke) is outlined at the end of this document.
A short sail brings the group to Peter Island. The main bay works for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or kayaking. Meanwhile, those going ashore can visit Peter Island Marina and its steakhouse with a reservation.
En route to Cooper Island, the yacht can stop at the Wreck of the Rhone, one of the most well-known dive and snorkel sites in the BVI.
Big ground seas make Cooper Island a poor New Year’s stop since it’s only partly protected. If conditions are good, it’s a worthwhile stop; if not, the captain may recommend pushing on toward Virgin Gorda instead.
Given the typically rough seas this week, the boat heads into Spanish Town Marina on Virgin Gorda for the night rather than anchoring out. From here, guests can taxi to The Baths — giant granite pools and grottoes — without relying on tender landings. Water shoes are useful on the wet, uneven rock.

The sail north may include a stop at The Dogs to snorkel. North Sound usually gets two nights, with anchorages at Leverick Bay, Prickly Pear, or Bitter End/Saba Rock.
A second night in North Sound, with the same choice of anchorages. If seas are calm, this is the best window for Anegada, but New Year’s swell often makes it weather‑dependent.
This is the longest sail of the trip, roughly two to three hours, but it puts the group in Jost Van Dyke for the centerpiece night of the charter. Options include Green Cay, Sandy Spit, and the Bubbly Pool hike, or White Bay and Great Harbour for Foxy’s New Year’s Eve. There’s also a quieter, well-protected bay nearby that works well if the wind is out of the north.
Decide early between Great Harbour’s public celebration or a private onboard one with dinner, champagne, music, and dessert. This choice affects yacht selection, provisioning, and reservations well in advance.
Anchorage congestion, tender access, guest mobility, and weather affect NYE positioning. So, the captain and broker finalize closer to the date.
After breakfast, the yacht sails back to Nanny Cay for disembarkation. Most charters have a fixed departure time, so it’s best not to book an international flight too close to arrival.
If conditions favor sailing the loop the other way, the route reverses:
| Night | Stop |
|---|---|
| 1 | Jost Van Dyke |
| 2 | Scrub Island / Marina Cay |
| 3–5 | North Sound, Virgin Gorda (3–4 nights) |
| 6 | Cooper Island (if conditions allow) |
| 7 | Peter Island |
| Day 8 | Return to Nanny Cay |
In this direction, New Year’s Eve is Night 1 at Jost Van Dyke, while Peter Island ends the route to avoid doubling back. The captain chooses direction based on conditions, but the rule is that no anchorage repeats across seven nights.
Now that you’ve seen how each day unfolds, it’s time to decide how you’d like to celebrate. Whether you join Jost Van Dyke’s party or celebrate privately aboard, your choice shapes the route and provisioning.
Speak With a Charter ExpertYes, but only if it’s a priority. Anegada is farther from the main BVI islands and requires a longer passage. It works when the weather is suitable, the yacht is capable, and guests are comfortable spending more time underway.
Trying to fit Anegada along with The Baths, beach bars, snorkeling, and New Year’s Eve parties in one week can feel rushed. For a holiday charter, it’s usually best to choose either Anegada or another highlight, not both.
Book earlier than you would for a normal winter week. Holiday weeks fill quickly, and the best yachts disappear even while others remain.
Early booking is especially important if you need:
BVISAIL’s Yacht Charter Brokers will confirm your group profile and check live availability. Static listings or old rates may not reflect current holiday bookings.

Most guests fly into Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (Beef Island) for direct access to Tortola. Others arrive in St. Thomas and continue by ferry or private water taxi.
Options include ferries from St. Thomas, private water taxis from the USVI, or an approved yacht pickup. Availability depends on licensing, customs, fees, and scheduling.
Most charters begin in Tortola, though some yachts may offer another approved starting point. For holiday charters, arrive at least one day early to avoid issues with flights, ferries, baggage, or winter weather.
Once your contract and deposit are complete, you’ll fill out a preference form. This gives the crew the details they need to plan meals, drinks, activities, and the overall pace of your charter.
Be sure to include:
The captain makes the final call for safety, but your preferences help the crew personalize the trip.
For a New Year’s charter, most families and groups lean toward a crewed catamaran. The wide decks and spacious layout make it well-suited for shared meals, sunset drinks, and midnight celebrations. However, other yacht types may suit different styles:
Celebrate New Year’s Eve with wide decks and social spaces perfect for family gatherings or group parties. In addition, all‑inclusive charters make holiday planning effortless.
Ring in the New Year while cruising faster between island hotspots. At the same time, spacious interiors and quick passages let you enjoy more celebrations across the BVI.
Welcome the New Year in refined style with luxury amenities, attentive crew, and elegant service. Moreover, APA covers festive extras like champagne, dockage, and party requests.
Experience the thrill of traditional sailing as you toast to midnight under the stars. Finally, this is a classic choice for guests who value authentic New Year’s voyages.
Catamarans heel less than monohulls and offer broad living areas, but some motion is inevitable. Guests sensitive to movement should review yacht type, route, and cabins with their physician and broker.
Holiday planning can be complex — from yacht layouts to contracts. BVISAIL simplifies it by matching cabins to your group, comparing crews, and confirming holiday availability. We review proposals, check operating permissions, and coordinate embarkation. We also explain contract terms clearly and share your preferences with the crew, which delivers a smooth celebration.
A common mistake is treating the itinerary like a checklist. At New Year’s, crowded bays and event timing make it smarter to focus on two or three highlights and let the captain adapt.
The best yachts book quickly for the holiday season. Book now to secure your yacht and enjoy midnight celebrations on deck or quiet bays to welcome the year.
Start Your Charter JourneyMost charters are 7 nights, and many yachts require this minimum. A 10‑night trip gives you more time for Anegada, longer stops, and a slower pace.
Foxy’s in Great Harbour hosts one of the BVI’s best-known New Year’s Eve celebrations. Trellis Bay may offer another festive option, subject to that year’s published event program. Many guests also enjoy a private dinner and midnight toast aboard the yacht, with event details confirmed for the year of travel.
Prices vary by yacht type, size, age, amenities, and guest capacity. Holiday weeks are usually higher than standard winter rates. Ask for a full estimate that includes base rate, taxes, permits, APA (if used), gratuity, and extras.
Many crewed sailing catamarans include meals and drinks. Motor yachts and luxury catamarans often use a base rate plus APA. Premium beverages, shore meals, event tickets, dockage, transfers, gratuity, and special requests may be extra.
Plan as early as possible — especially for larger groups, equal cabins, special amenities, or a specific yacht type. Holiday availability is limited, and New Year’s dates may follow fixed embarkation schedules.
A New Year’s charter balances celebration while still enjoying the islands at a pace that feels comfortable. The route depends on weather, yacht speed, anchorages, group interests, events, and logistics.
